Cudoniella clavus (A. & S. ex Fr.) Dennis. Cap up to lcm across, concave at first, becoming strongly convex with a reflexed margin; whitish to grayish or ochraceous buff, usually flushed with violaceous tints. Stem short; white, but often brown or black at base; smooth. Asci up to 115 x 10µ, cylindrical clavate; varying greatly in length; 8-spored. Spores oblong-fusiform, often narrower at one end, 10-17 x 3-5µ. Habitat on wet, rotting twigs and leaves, in ditches and swamps, also on dead stems. Found in the Pacific Northwest and in Europe. Season August-October. Not edible. |
